Last week I became an Uncle. It was ON the due date that I had an idea of a couple things I thought would be really fun to bring to the hospital after the baby was born. I found what I wanted on Cafe Press, and I knew I likely didn’t have much time so I paid an extra $30 to have the items shipped out for next-day delivery.
At about 6pm the next day I hadn’t received the package so I went online and noticed that there was a delivery attempt but no-one was there to sign for it.
Dang, I must have been at lunch!
Same thing the next day. But wait, I was here at 3:03pm when they tried to deliver it, and they didn’t leave a note on the door like they usually do.
After further poking around I realized that the package was being delivered to my old San Francisco address. Doh! Living in Portland now, it’s more than a little hard to just drive on down there and get it.
So I called UPS and all they could do was send the package back to the sender. Then I called Cafe Press, to tell them the problem, and asked that as soon as they receive the package again if they could immediately forward it on to my current address.
I was prepared for a little bit of a hassle, to say the least.
Then woman on the other end asked only one question. She asked for the correct address, and said she’d send out a new package, next-day delivery, and that I’d have it tomorrow. Wow! It was my fault that I had overlooked that the address was wrong when I placed the order. And it’s not cheap to overnight a package. But they covered it, no questions asked, and I’m a ridiculously happy customer.

I’ve heard the exact same story about UPS not being able to help out in situations like that. Moral of the story, Cafe Press is awesome, UPS not so much.
